Supplies for Making Your Drum
In order to make drums in class, students are asked to bring in two things:
1. A 10", plastic flower pot or beach bucket with a "lip" edge
(the 10" diameter of the opening is a suggestion - larger is fine, but smaller will not work)
2. A roll of packing tape
(preferably on a dispenser)

If desired, students can have their parents/guardians cut a hole in the bottom of the pot (by simply connecting the dots with a utility knife) so their drum will produce a larger sounds. This is not necessary and if students are interested in doing this PLEASE ASK YOUR PARENTS/GUARDIANS TO DO THIS - STUDENTS SHOULD NOT TRY TO DO THIS ON THEIR OWN. I have also provided a picture of what the final product will look like.
Making Your Drum
We are making drums that will be used both in class and at home. Begin by making an 'x' with two pieces of tape (top left picture). Make sure that the tape extends down about half of the depth of the drum (top right picture). Then begin layering the tape in both directions by overlapping by half a strip of tape (bottom left picture). When you are done, wrap tape around the sides of the drum to secure the tape from the top and to tighten the drum head (bottom right picture).
